This Creamy Cheesy Tortellini with Broccoli is a comfort food meal that never disappoints! It’s easy, delicious and the perfect weeknight meal for your family dinner.
Hey there folks! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
I know I should probably be sharing some healthy little number today with you folks, but for some reason immediately after the TGiving holiday is over I have a wild craving for either pizza or a pasta dish. I have no idea why, but it’s been that way for years.
After a holiday where you’ve got a main dish and several sides to serve up, a one pot pasta meal just fits the bill for me. It’s simple and satisfying.
So today, much to my delight and hopefully yours, I’m sharing this absolutely decadent Creamy Cheesy Tortellini with Broccoli.
Why You’ll Love this Recipe
It’s creamy. It’s cheesy. It takes no time to make and you really need just a handful of ingredients.
It’s fabulous served with a side salad and a glass of chilled Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. Crusty bread too if you want to treat yourself.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- refrigerated cheese tortellini
- fresh broccoli
- garlic
- butter
- all-purpose flour
- whole milk
- coarse kosher salt and pepper
- red pepper flakes
- Italian seasoning
- grated Parmesan cheese
- shredded asiago cheese
Step-By-Step Instructions
The first step bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the tortellini and cook just shy of al dente according to the package directions. You’ll reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water and then drain the remaining water and set aside.
The second step is to melt your butter in a large deep skillet over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, you’ll whisk in your all-purpose flour, and continue to whisk constantly for one minute. At this point you’ll slowly add in your milk, whisking until smooth.
The third step is to mix in your salt, pepper, Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes and whisk until well combined.
The fourth step is to stir in your broccoli florets and minced garlic. You’ll cook over medium heat, stirring often for 3-4 minutes, then add in 1/2 cup of your shredded asiago cheese and all of your grated Parmesan cheese.
The fifth step is to gently stir in your cooked tortellini and 1/2 cup of the reserved hot pasta water.
The last step is to top the pasta with the remaining grated asiago cheese and then bake at 375 degrees for about 15-20 minutes until the pasta is bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and lightly browned.
I enjoy this pasta dish with a side salad and a glass of white wine. It hits the spot when I’m in the mood for something cozy and comforting. Hope you give it a go.

A Few Cook’s Notes for Creamy Cheesy Tortellini with Broccoli
I love the taste of the asiago cheese, but I think a combo of mozzarella and sharp provolone would be delicious too.
