About MaryAnn
Hello and welcome! My name is MaryAnn and I am the recipe developer, photographer and creator of The Beach House Kitchen.
Thinking back, I can say I have always loved to cook (and eat)! Growing up my mother and my grandmother were incredible cooks and from the first recipe I ever attempted solo (cinnamon buns from The Betty Crocker Cookbook for Boys and Girls) my father would say anything I made was the best thing he ever ate. Take it from me, I know that wasn’t always true. I’ve had my share of failures over the years, but success or failure I’ve always enjoyed my time in my kitchen.
So, why did I start this blog?
Well, I have to say the main reason was because my good friend Rose encouraged me. And really all the stars aligned…my two boys, Sean and Casey were both in college and my husband Tom and I were empty nesters , so I had lots of time on my hands. I wanted to finally have a job I would really love. I had been creating my own recipes and collecting recipes from magazines and other fabulous blogs for years and really wanted them all in one place. I love cooking for family and friends and seeing them enjoy what I have prepared and then want to try the recipe themselves. And lastly, because I have three wonderful sisters who call me often to ask for a certain recipe of mine, so why the heck not start a blog to document all the fun going on in my kitchen at the beach and hopefully inspire you folks to get cooking in your own kitchens?
Why the name The Beach House Kitchen?
Well, I grew up my entire life lucky enough to spend summers at the Jersey shore. I entertain from Memorial Day to Labor Day and love every minute of it! A day that is spent planning who can come to dinner, what I’m going to prepare, making a list and checking it twice, and going to the market and fabulous vegetable stands New Jersey has to offer to gather up some beautiful fresh local ingredients is a day well spent! My fondest memories are from times spent there with family and friends and the wonderful meals we’ve shared together.
And now that Tom and I can both work from anywhere, we spend our winters at another beach. We followed family and the warmth of the sun and headed to Naples, Florida and we LOVE it!
While you’re here at the BHK, there are a few recipes that are family and friend favorites that you absolutely shouldn’t miss!
My Swedish Meatball Pasta Bake is my all-time favorite here at the BHK and it’s BEYOND delish. I’ve made the recipe as is here on the blog and have also made the meatballs into mini meatballs and served just with the sauce, no pasta, as an appetizer with some sliced baguette and lingonberry jam on the side and it’s always a crowd pleaser.

My husband Tom’s fave has always been the Pan Seared Scallops with Orzo Piccata. It’s such a tasty dish and super easy. Perfect for those busy weeknights, but fancy enough for weekend guests.

My Three Bean Casserole and Italian wedding Soup are reader favorites, so if you haven’t given the recipes a go, I highly recommend adding them to your must-try list.
My Skillet Stovetop Lasagna and Spicy Black Bean Turkey Chili are always at the top of our easy comfort food recipe list, but if you’re looking for something on the healthier side, try these:
In the desserts category, I hope you give my Jewish Apple Cake a go during the fall apple season. It’s a moist cake that’s loaded with cinnamon-sugared apples. It’s absolutely dreamy!

A summer favorite dessert without a doubt is my Glazed Blueberry Hand Pies recipe. They’ve got a flaky homemade, buttery crust and a fresh blueberry filling that’s super yummy. These are always a popular dessert option for the 4th of July. They’re a grab a go dessert that kids and adults alike really enjoy.
