Treat your Valentine to some delicious homemade Cinnamon Heart Applesauce this year! It’s quick and easy and sweetheart approved!
Hi guys! I’m popping in today to share a quick and easy Simple Saturday recipe with a little Valentine’s Day spin!
My husband Tom is a huge applesauce fan. He enjoys it as a side with dinner, as a snack during the day and in the small squeezable packets before or after his run. It’s so easy to make homemade and so much more cost effective, so I always have some homemade on hand in a jar in the fridge.
There are lots of different flavored applesauces out there, but Tom is a plain or cinnamon guy. So when my sister Patty said one of her favorite places in St. Louis sells their homemade applesauce flavored with cinnamon hearts I thought I’d give it a go for Valentine’s Day. Just add 1/4 cup of red hots to the applesauce while it’s cooking until they’ve melted and turned your sauce a pretty pinkish-red color. Then puree it in your food processor to get it to the consistency you like and serve it up to your special sweetheart! Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 3 lbs. apples peeled, cored and sliced (I use Gala apples)
- 1/2 cup water
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cinnamon hearts
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a large pot over medium heat.
- Heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring often.
- Puree in food processor until you reach desired consistency.
I love cinnamon red hots! It’s a pantry staple in my house, but just for me! My family hates them! So, this recipe will be ALL MINE on Valentine’s Day. Can’t wait to taste it!
