This Mulled Cider is a classic warm fall beverage. Apple Cider infused with fall spices is the perfect way to warm up this season!
Hi guys! I’m quickly popping in for the next installment of Simple Saturday.
Yesterday was like a summer day at the beach. The sun was shining and temps were in the 80’s. It was crazy! What’s even crazier is today it’s windy and temps are in the 50’s! Wah wah! I decided the perfect way to warm up would be with one of my fall favorites. A nice steamy mug of my Mulled Cider.
If you’ve never tried Mulled Cider, you’ve totally been missing out! Nothing beats the smell of apple cider infused with orange slices and fall spices. And of course, keeping with the theme of Simple Saturday, this recipe couldn’t be simpler. Just add some good quality apple cider, orange slices, whole cloves, whole allspice berries, cinnamon sticks, star anise, a bit of brown sugar and a pinch of salt to a large saucepan and bring to almost a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 30 minutes. That’s it!
It’s time to break out the fuzzy slippers and grab a mug folks. The smell will permeate your home and you’ll be feelin’ warm and cozy in no time! Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 2 quarts apple cider
- 1 tsp. whole cloves
- 1 tsp. whole allspice berries
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 3 star anise
- 1 orange thinly sliced
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar firmly packed
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to almost a boil.
- Lower temperature and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and ladle into mugs leaving solids behind.
This is perfect timing for me MaryAnn because it got super cold here overnight. I need to make this and take it with me to my son’s soccer game this morning! So comforting!
OMG! You’re going to need it to stay warm Karen! It’s one of my favorite parts of fall. Funny, but I’ve been saying that a lot lately! I’m thinking fall and summer maybe neck and neck now for my two favorite seasons.
Well it’s good to know it’s not just NC with some wacky weather, it is the entire east coast (even my mom down in FL said it got chilly). So weird, because yesterday was perfect weather and then around 5 pm I walked outside and it was windy and cold. Hmmm.. that’s the east coast for ya! ;) Anyways, I LOVE mulled cider but I’ve never made my own. Clearly this recipe is calling my name! Looks just perfect Mary Ann!! Happy weekend, my friend! Cheers!
It’s so easy Chey and perfect for fall. I love the smell in the house when it’s cooking! Hope your weekend is fabulous!

I always have a jug of cider on hand in the fall and this is the reason why. Nothing warms the soul like mulled cider. It balances us out after all those wacky temps!
Yes, I agree Cathy. It’s one of my favorite things about fall!
