These Viral Blanket Dumplings are the easy answer when you want to enjoy delicious dumplings but only want to put in half the work! They’re perfect enjoyed as an appetizer, dinner or a tasty snack.
Viral Blanket Dumplings. Have you guys heard of them? I’m sure you have because they’ve been all over the internet for quite a while.
I’m kind of late to the party, but better late than never right?
For those of you who haven’t heard of them, I’m bringing them to your attention with today’s recipe which is adapted from several different recipes I saw online.
Honestly, they’re beyond easy to make and so much easier than traditional dumplings.
Why You’ll Love this Recipe
These are so much easier than the traditional pork dumplings and just as delicious. Enjoy as an appetizer, snack or even dinner.
I think most people shy away from making the traditional version because they’re intimidated by the folding, so this version is a great option.
You can make your filling ahead of time, wrap the filling with your dumpling wrappers and cook when you’re ready to enjoy.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- ground pork
- green onions
- ginger
- garlic
- salt and pepper
- chili crisp
- low-sodium soy sauce
- sesame oil
- cornstarch
- rice vinegar
- dumpling wrappers
- vegetable oil
- vegetable broth
- sesame seeds, optional
You can use round dumpling wrappers if you can find them or you can use square wonton wrappers and use a glass or a round cookie cutter to cut them into circles which is what I did. You can usually find the wrappers in the produce section of your food store.
Step-By-Step Instructions
The first step is to add all your filling ingredients to a large bowl.
You’ll combine all your filling ingredients and mix together with your hands until well combined.
The second step will be to scoop about one tablespoon of the filling into the center of each dumpling wrapper and then squeeze the wrapper over the top and the sides, not the bottom. I usually do this on a baking sheet or cutting board. (pictured below โ)
The third step will be to grab a large nonstick skillet and heat to medium-high heat. Add your vegetable oil and once heated, add some of your dumplings, leaving space between them. Pour the vegetable broth into the skillet in between the dumplings, then cover the skillet and let the dumplings steam for about 6-8 minutes or until the pork is cooked through.
Depending on how big your skillet is you may need to cook the dumplings in two batches. If so you may need more oil and vegetable broth.
Once the dumplings are done steaming, you will uncover your skillet and cook for another minute or two or until all the broth has evaporated and the bottoms are slightly crisp. Internal temperature should be 160 degrees F.
I like to serve my dumplings topped with toasted sesame seeds (found in the spice aisle of your local market), extra soy sauce, chili crunch and sliced green onions.
These are super tasty and make for a really quick meal. Great as a little game day appetizer too.

A Few Cook’s Notes for Viral Blanket Dumplings
For each batch of dumplings you will need two tablespoons vegetable oil and 1/3 cup of the vegetable broth, unlessย you have a large enough skillet to fit all you dumplings. I made two batches.
As mentioned abouve, you can make your filling and wrap your dumplings ahead of time. Just add to a large plate or baking sheet and place in the fridge covered with plastic wrap until you are ready to cook.
