- 12 oz. penne pasta
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 lb. bulk Italian sausage
- 1 cup yellow onion, diced
- 1 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 1 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes, partially drained
- 4-5 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp. coarse kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 2/3 cup heavy cream
- grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
- red pepper flakes, for serving
Cook your pasta according to package directions in a pot of boiling water with some added salt. When the pasta is done cooking, you'll drain and set aside. While the pasta is cooking you'll heat a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, then add your olive oil followed by your Italian sausage, onions and peppers.Cook the meat and veggies, breaking up the meat with a large spoon until the meat is no longer pink and the veggies are slightly softened. Add your partially drained diced tomatoes, garlic, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper and mix until well combined.
Add in your cooked pasta followed by your butter and heavy cream. Mix until the penne and sausage/veggie mixture is well combined, the butter is melted and everything is heated through. Serve with some grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes.
I used hot Italian sausage for this recipe, but you can also use sweet or mild.
To cut down on calories I also used Carbe Diem Penne. It has 55% less net carbs than other leading pasta brands. This isn't a sponsored post. I'm just sharing what I enjoy.
