Homemade Greek Style Hamburger Helper
This Homemade Greek Style Hamburger Helper is a one-pot meal that couldn't be easier! It’s flavored with garlic, oregano, cinnamon, parsley and feta and loaded with pasta and ground beef. It's super satisfying and flavorful!
Servings: 6 servings
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 lb. lean ground beef, I use Laura's Lean
- 1 small yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp. dried oregano
- 1 tsp. dried parsley
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
- 2 1/2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 8-oz. can tomato sauce
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
Add the olive oil to a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and brown, breaking it up with a spoon, along with the onion until the meat is no longer pink and the onions are translucent. Drain most of the liquid. Stir in the garlic, oregano, parsley, cinnamon and red pepper flakes and cook for an additional one minute.
Stir in the broth, milk, tomato sauce and macaroni. Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce temperature to a simmer. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until the pasta is nice and tender, stirring occasionally. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Stir in feta cheese until melted or you can serve it with the feta and let people sprinkle their helping with it themselves. Serve immediately.
I use the traditional eblow pasta for this recipe, but you can use any small/medium size pasta. Shells, penne or whatever you have on hand.
You can add the feta crumbles to the pasta mixture and melt it in on the stovetop, or serve the crumbles on the side and let people use as much as they prefer to top their serving with.
