Ingredients

Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 Tbsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Pumpkin Spice Old Fashioned

  • 1 oz. pumpkin spice syrup
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 orange slice
  • 2 oz. bourbon
  • cinnamon stick or dehydrated orange slice, as garnish, if desired

Instructions

Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • Add water and brown sugar to a small saucepan and simmer over medium-low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Turn the heat to low and whisk in the pumpkin pie spice and the pumpkin puree. Simmer on low for 5-6 minutes whisking constantly. Remove from heat to cool. Add the vanilla extract and mix well. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into an airtight container. Store in refrigerator.

Pumpkin Spice Old Fashioned

  • Add the pumpkin spice syrup, orange bitters and orange slice to an old fashioned glass. Muddle. Add bourbon and a large ice cube and stir gently. Garnish with dehydrated orange slice and/or cinnamon stick.

Notes

You will need to use 100% pure pumpkin for this recipe. I use Libby's brand canned pure pumpkin. Do not use canned pumpkin pie mix.
The pumpkin spice syrup will keep in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one month.
